BOREDOM, LACK OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, EXCESS WEIGHT, DIABETES AND OBESITY
OBSERVATION: Pets spend the bulk of their time in enclosed spaces.
CONSEQUENCES: Unable to fulfill their genetic urge to spend several hours a day looking for food, they become bored and stiff. They eat their food too quickly and statically, often in excessive quantities.
Muscle and joint pains due to ankylosis, as well as abdominal pains caused by ingesting too quickly, are stresses which can result in sustained hyperglycemia, leading to obesity (via lipid anabolism), diabetes, and kidney failure.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® : sustainable mental exercise, gentle physical activity several times a day, and slow food ingestion.
GASTRITIS, REGURGITATION, DENTAL CALCULUS AND STOMATO-GINGIVITIS
OBSERVATION: More than 90% of pets eat too quickly.
In the wild, all foodstuffs must be chewed prior to ingestion: chewing infuses food with saliva, which is rich in the bicarbonates necessary for proper digestion.
CONSEQUENCES: As a result of the animal’s failure to chew his food (dry or moist), a lack of bicarbonates in the stomach does not allow an adequate buffering effect to stop the stomach’s lining from being irritated by acid gastric juices, and can lead to chronic gastritis and ulcers.
The animal manages to temporarily alleviate the abdominal pains, either by eating more quickly, by drinking a lot more, or by licking or swallowing non-edible products.
If these abdominal pains become worse during movement, the animal will become less inclined to play and increasingly static, choosing to remain in the least painful position possible.
The volatile gastric acids flow back up the esophagus, causing irritations which can lead to nausea, regurgitations and, on occasion, pains during the swallowing of food. These pains are often strong enough to lead the animal to refuse to eat, sometimes after having unsuccessfully tried new foodstuffs.
In addition to irritating the larynx, these acid vapours can also lead to chronic coughing.
With cats and small dogs, in their oral cavities, which are poorly ventilated since the majority of breathing is done through the nose, these acids irritate the mucosa and obstruct the salivary antibodies, which can lead to bacterial and/or viral stomato-gingivitis.
In small dogs, the gastric acids stagnate in the poorly ventilated area in between the cheeks and the dental arches, attacking the enamel on the outer surface of the teeth, which can lead to tooth decay, buildup of calculus and, when the outer surface of the gums is irritated, can cause tooth loss.
Static dry food dispensers do not prevent rapid ingestion and its harmful effects. Raised, slow-feed bowls, which are only partially effective due to the discomfort in swallowing they provoke, cause stress to the animal, while other floor-level slow-feed devices can only hold a small quantity of food, and require a lot of cleaning.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® : sustainable mental exercise, gentle physical activity several times a day, and gradual adaptation to slow food ingestion, easy and fast to use.
CYSTITIS, NEPHRITIS, URINARY STONES AND CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE
OBSERVATION: Swallowing food too quickly leads to poor digestion of proteins and starches, which the large intestine’s microbes decay and ferment by producing toxins.
Depression, ankylosis from sedentary living, and abdominal pains cause stress, which reduces organ efficiency.
CONSEQUENCES: The ammonia produced by proteins and, later, the lactic acid produced by starches, irritate the kidney and bladder linings, enabling the emergence of nephritis and chronic cystitis, as well as the formation of urinary crystals and stones.
The protein toxins that enter the bloodstream place a heavy burden on the liver and more importantly the kidneys, causing them to overload, followed by a gradual deterioration culminating in Chronic Kidney Disease, which is the main cause of death in domestic pets.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® : slow food ingestion, sustainable mental exercise and gentle physical activity several times a day.
INACTIVITY, AGGRESSIVENESS AND UNCLEANLINESS
OBSERVATION: Inactivity causes joint ankylosis, muscle pains and backache; rapid ingestion leads to gastric pains which are often aggravated when the animal moves.
In addition, lactic acid produced by amylolytic microbial flora in the intestines causes muscle pains which also lead to inactivity.
CONSEQUENCES: As a result of these pains, the animal first desists from playing, and later from moving around, and sometimes becomes irritable when his painful areas, particularly the stomach and the back, are approached.
This causes cats to stop approaching their litter boxes, or climbing into them, or in some cases to refuse to curl up in their box if it is too small.
With dogs, these muscle pains can discourage them from taking walks, and lead them to neglect cleanliness.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® : sustainable mental exercise, gentle physical activity several times a day and slow food ingestion.
HAIR LOSS AND CHRONIC DERMATITIS
OBSERVATION : Over-rapid food ingestion upsets digestion, leads to toxin antibiotic synthesis of the proteolytic intestinal microbial flora, which obstruct the necessary intestinal synthesis of cellulolytic microbial flora; other toxins irritate the colon, reducing its capacity to absorb essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, group B vitamins and micro-nutrients.
CONSEQUENCES: The body’s lack of these essential elements will first become visible in the hair, which, while continuing to grow, will become brittle; followed by the skin which will gradually become thinner, making it attractive to external parasites and permeable to foreign bodies (dust, pollen, parasites, fungi, bacteria). This can lead to allergies, and to itching, which worsens the clinical situation, in the form of scratching sores and skin infections.
In this case, medical treatments are often very aggressive and, as the root causes are not cured, only produce unsatisfactory outcomes and relapses.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® : prevents rapid ingestion, the main source of poor digestion and of a lack of necessary intestinal microbiota synthesis and absorption: in the wild, on average animals eat 5 times less quickly, as natural food, all of which is structured, requires chewing and permeation with saliva before it is swallowed.
In addition, the PIPOLINO® provides ongoing mental exercise, which reduces the desire to scratch, and gentle physical activity several times a day, which encourages better peripheral blood circulation, essential to wound healing
SURGERY AND CONVALESCENCE
OBSERVATION: when examining an animal before surgery, the veterinary surgeon analyses factors that could point towards a risk of post-operative complications in certain animals: overall poor health, thin hair, excess weight, diabetes, chronic diseases, dehydration, … which should be handled with caution; post-operative complications are regular in such animals: vomiting, post-operation lethargy, a fussy appetite, delayed skin or bone wound healing, stitch seepage, bandage intolerance, post-operative oedema, hospital-acquired infections, scar dehiscence, exuberant scars, post-operative ulcerations, failed bone fracture ossification, post-operative or post-traumatic depression leading to permanent sores, …
The usual common denominator of these symptoms and diseases is a chronic intoxication which harms stem-cell activity, as these cells are placed under intense use after an operation.
The main toxins come from intestinal microbial transformations of poorly digested nutrients: lactic acid generated by starch fermentation; histamine, putrescines, cadaverines, … arising from the putrefaction of proteins.
Due to poor digestion after food has been swallowed too quickly, these microbial intoxications can be worsened by low-quality foodstuffs, by an absence of physical activity resulting in blood stasis, acidosis and a lack of body oxygenation, and by insufficient water provision, potentially harmful to the function of the kidneys.
SOLUTION : PIPOLINO® :
As a precaution, when the operation is not urgent, for example, in the case of convenience surgery ;
To complement functional recovery, post-operation and as soon as the animal is able to go in search of food.
The physical activity involved helps to steer the animal away from the harmful consequences of inactivity; the mental exercise allows to alleviate awareness of pains and stitches, while slow ingestion eliminates microbial intoxication from intestins.
The skin and bone wound healing process is regularly reduced by a third, stitches no longer seep and stitch and bandage tolerance improves considerably.
